Using the SearchNZ Search Engine to Search NZ Web Pages
To find what you're looking for just enter a keyword (or a few words) into the search box that appears on every page.

There are a number of extra features available when searching with SearchNZ:

List more than one page per site
Selecting this option groups any results found from the same Web site and summarises tham by displaying one result per site. To drill down to all of the matching pages within that site, you may click on the link 'xx more results from...' to see all the matching pages within the site.

Allow spelling mistakes ('Fuzzy') search
Selecting this option will search for keywords both exactly the same as, and similar sounding to the words you entered. Since many Kiwis use a mixture of American spelling and also many words are miss-spelled on the Web, this is a great feature! If you are unsure of the spelling of a word yourself, make sure this feature is ticked to allow for mistakes in either the word you entered, or the words that appear within resulting Web pages.
Searching the NZSearch Categories
Enter any keyword(s) you wish to search for, separated by spaces in the first search field, and select 'in the NZSearch Web Directory'. After pressing the 'Search' button any web site whose name or description (or categories) within the NZSearch Web Directory contains one or more of the words you entered will be displayed in the search results.

To help you manage the results of your search, The first sets of results are categories. Since categories are populated with sites, a category can contain tens or even hundreds of relevant web sites.

After this summary the first 10 site matches are listed with an option for more. If there are no categories that match your search words, NZSearch will only list these sites that match.

You can also redefine your search at this stage by modifying your search keywords. This allows you to narrow your search further.

Browsing the Web Directory
You can browse the NZSearch web directory by simply clicking on the various categories listed on NZSearch.
Searching NZ Domain Names
This great features allows you to search through all of the NZ domain names (ie; end in .NZ) currently in use. To search through taken names enter any keyword you wish to search for, and select 'in Existing NZ Domain Names'. After pressing the 'Search' button any NZ domain names whose address or description matches your word will be displayed in the search results. A sample search is available by clicking here...
- please note that domain names searches are automatically generated from .NZ names and the only way to be included in these results is to register a .NZ domain name with an authorised .nz registrar.
Searching NZCity NewsLinks (News Items from throughout the Web)
Another searching option, provided by NZCity NewsLinks, is a full-text search of news articles from Web pages around the internet.
If this all seems like a lot to digest in one sitting, to learn how to search effectively we recommend that you return to SearchNZ each time you want to find content within the NZ Web, and make use of the help available.
